About this place

The spiritual and political centre of a pre-Hispanic Andean culture, recognized as World Heritage.

Tiwanaku introduces an Andean society that predates the Incas. Its monumental spaces include Kalasasaya and the Pumapunku complex: there is more here than the Gate of the Sun seen in many photographs.

Planning your visit

Before buying a tour, ask which sections it covers and whether interpretation is included. Allow time to understand the structures, not just photograph them. Check access rules and stay off archaeological features outside the authorised route.

Practical information for this place is still under review. We do not have confirmed opening hours or admission fees to publish here. Check current opening hours, admission fees and access arrangements directly with the venue or its management before travelling.
